Spring is in the air. The beautiful array of colors and flowers are evidence that a new season has begun. I wanted to bring some of those vivid colors inside my home by using flowers. I decided to use artificial flowers so that I am able to reuse them for other arrangements throughout the year. I was able to find decent-looking flowers at my local Dollar Tree to put together two quick arrangements. The total price I spent on flowers was $15 for the larger and $9 for the smaller arrangement. Plus, I picked up a few colors of ribbon and velcro dot fasteners there as well. The burlap ribbon was on sale for $5 at Hobby Lobby. Finally,  I used vases I already had on hand. By the way, Dollar Tree also carries a good variety of vases. Overall, these projects are an inexpensive and fast way to brighten up your home.

Let’s get started…

Flower Arrangement #1

What you’ll need:
  • Artificial flowers
  • Roll of burlap
  • Velcro fasteners
  • Glue Gun
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Vase
Shopping for this will be fun 😉

Types of flower I chose.

For the flowers, I chose the following: Queen Anne’s Lace, Cat Tail, Plumeria, Black Eye Susan, Anthurium, Hop Bush, Pansies, Lavender, Fern, and Foliage—which of course was the hardest to find.

It helps to lay out the flowers and sort them out by color. The flower types I bought two bundles of, I used on opposite corners and then used the remaining ones to add to the center. I added the foliage in a triangle manner to spread them out.

I measured the burlap to go around the vase before cutting it. I then added velcro fastener dots to the ends of the ribbon. Be sure to flip the ribbon over after placing the dots at one end and then proceed to add them to the opposite end. Next, place a velcro fastener dot at the center of your ribbon, you may want to use a glue gun to secure the dot in place.*

Finally, add a velcro fastener dot to the back of the bow you make. This makes it easy to swap out different color bows or embellishments. Note, the bow I made was a bit on the heavy side, so you may want to use a glue gun to secure the velcro to the bow. Click below for details on making the bow I made.

*Note: The velcro from Dollar Tree doesn’t hold very well – especially with the burlap or too much weight for that matter. You may need to glue a piece of fabric to the back of the burlap to secure the glue used for the velcro dot. Also, you could use additional velcro dots instead.

Check out this short video tutorial on how to make an interchangeable bow.

Flower Arrangement #2

What you’ll need:
  • Artificial flowers
  • Roll of burlap
  • Velcro fasteners
  • Vase fillers
  • Glue Gun
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Vase

Types of flower I chose.

For the flowers, I chose the following: Spike, Lime Hydrangeas, Ivory Hydrangeas, Cat Tail, Aster, and Foliage.

For this vase I used small pebbles and glass gems as fillers.

Add the burlap ribbon with velcro fasteners as previously mentioned. Applying the velcro fasteners is a convenient way to quickly remove the burlap ribbon when you want to redecorate your vase.

Finally, I added a white bow with a velcro dot to finish the project.
